To make 12 V battery using 1.5 V cells, we divide the battery voltage by individual cell voltage to get the number of cells to build the required 12 V battery.

So, by dividing 12 by 1.5 we get, required number of cells as, 8. It means by connecting 8, 1.5 V cells in series we can make a 12 V battery.
