Question

Calculate the number of atoms of carbon and oxygen in 72.5 gram isopropanol.

Open in App
Solution

Given that

Isopropanol(C3H7OH)=72.5 g

So, molecular mass of C3H7OH=36+7+16+1=60

In 72.5 g is 72.560=1.208 moles

Now,

1 mole of C3H7OH Contains3N (N=6.023×1023) atoms of Carbon

1.208 moles contains 1.208×3N atoms =3.624N atoms of Carbon

So,

=3.624×6.023×1023=2.183×1024 atoms Of Carbon

Similarly,

Number of Oxygen atoms=1.208N

1.208×6.023×1023

7.276×1023 atoms

Hence,

Number of Carbon =2.183×1024 atoms

Number of Oxygen =7.276×1023 atoms

This is the required solution.
