Calculate the number of bolts required at the end connections of the angle to the gussets using 20 mm bolts, given the allowable shear stress in the bolt = 80 MPa and allowable bearing stress = 250 MPa.

Given : Gusset plate thickness = 8 mm, bolts are in double shear, tensile force = 240 kN

The correct option is A 6
Rivet value (Rivet will be in double shear)

Shearing strength of rivet
=π4×(21.5)2×80×2
=58.09 kN

Bearing strength of rivet=d×t×σbr
=21.5×8×250
=43 kN

Rv=min(43,58.09)kN=43 kN
No. of rivets required=FTRV
=24043=5.586 number
