Question

Calculate the number of electrons in 100 grams of CO2
Can a body have a charge of (a) 0.32×1018C (b) 0.64×1020C (c) 4.8×1021C?

Solution

No of moles of Co2 in 100gm
n = 10044 = 2.28
total no. of moles = 2.28 × NA
so electron will be = 22× 2.28 ×NA
= 22 × 2.28 × × 6.023 ×1023
= 3.02 ×1025

(2)
(a)
q = ne
n× 1.6×1019
= 0.32 ×1018 = 3.2 ×1017
n = 2 so possible
(b)
n ×1.6×1019 = 0.64 ×1020
= 0.64 ×1017
here n < 1
so not possible
(c)
n×1.6×1019 = 4.8 ×1021
n = 3 ×102
= 0.03
n < 1
so not possible
