Question

Calculate the number of electrons, protons and neutrons in 1 mole of 16O2 ions.

Open in App
Solution

Atomic number of Oxygen is 8
Atomic mass of Oxygen is 16
we know that
Mass number=No. of proton+No. of neutron
No. of neutron in O atom is =168=8
No. of proton in O atom=8 (atomic number=no of proton)
No. of electron in O atom=8 (no. of proton=no.of electron for neutral atom)
In O2 ion
No. of electron=8+2=10
1mole=6.022×1023 ions
No. of electrons in 1mole of O2=10×6.022×1023=6.022×1024
No. of protons in 1mole of O2=8×6.022×1023=48.176×1023
No. of neutrons in 1mole of O2=8×6.022×1023=48.176×1023
