Question

Calculate the number of g-moles of CaO that could be obtained from 42.54 g of CaCO3 and convert the number of g-moles to grams.

Open in App
Solution

Since, on heating it gives the following balanced reaction,
CaCO3CaO+O2
Also, g-moles means moles of the species, and moles = mass of compoundmolecular weight of compound
So moles of CaCO3 = 42.54100 = 0.4254
Hence, moles of CaO = moles of CaCO3 = 0.4254 (as per Stoichiometric coefficient of the reaction)
and mass of CaO = moles of CaO X molecular mass of CaO = 56X0.4254 = 23.8224gm
