3.01 × 1021 Mg2+ ions


1 mole of magnesium chloride, MgCl2 = 24 + (2 × 35.5) = 95 g
i.e. 95 g of MgCl2 contains 6.023 × 1023 MgCl2 molecules
∴ 0.51 g MgCl2 contains = (6.023 × 1023 × 0.51)/95 = 3.01 × 1021 MgCl2 molecules.
Hence, 0.51 g MgCl2 contains = 3.01 × 1021 Mg+2 ions.
