Question

Calculate the number of moles present in 34g of Ammonia?

Open in App
Solution

  • The gram molecular mass or molar mass is defined as the molecular mass of a mole of a substance expressed in grams.
  • The number of moles can be calculated by the the equation

Number of moles = GivenmassofthesubstanceMolecularweightofthesubstance

  • To find number of moles present in 34g of Ammonia(NH3)

Given mass of the substance(Ammonia) = 34g

Molecular weight of Ammonia = Molecular weight of Nitrogen + Molecular weight of Hydrogen

= 14 + (1×3) = 14+ 3 =17g/mol

Therefore, number of moles present in 34g of Ammonia(NH3) =3417 =2 moles.
