Calculate the oxidation number of each sulphur atom in Na2S2O3.

Let the oxidation number of sulphur atom is x.
Na2xS2O3
2×(+1)+2x+(2)×3=0
2+2x6=0
2x4=0
2x=4
x=+2( wrong )
By conventional method, we can't find the oxidation number of each sulphur atom.
It will be well explained by structure. One sulphur has +6 O.S, whereas another has 2.
