Question

Calculate the ratio of kinetic energies of 3g of hydrogen and 4g of oxygen at a given temperature
The mean kinetic energy of a molecule at O0 C is 5.621×1014 erg. Calculate Boltzmann's constant. If the value of R=8.314×107erg, then also calculate the no. of molecules present in one mole of gas.

Solution

Kinetic energy =32nRT
nH2=32 and nO2=416
ratio of K.E of 3g H2 and 4g O2=32:416=6:1
Average K.E.=32KT
K=5.621×1014×23×273=1.372×1016ergmolecule1K1
now of molecules present in one mole of gas, i.e.
Avogadro's number =RK=8.314×1071.372×1016=6.059×1023
