Question

Calculate the relative molecular mass of H2SO4.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Calculate the mass of hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen atoms:

Mass of 2 atoms of hydrogen (H) is 2x1=2u

Mass of 1 atom of sulfur (S) is 1x32=32u

Mass of 4 atoms of oxygen (O) is 4x16=64u

Step 2: Calculate the relative molecular mass of Sulphuric acid H2SO4:

The relative molecular mass of H2SO4 = Mass of 2 hydrogen atoms + Mass of 1 sulfur atom + Mass of 4 oxygen atoms

=2+32+64=98u

Hence, the relative molecular mass of H2SO4 is 98u.
