Given:
b=600 cmλ=5.5×105 cm

Distance between moon and earth, D=3.8×10 cm

Limit the resolution of a telescope,

Δθ=1.22λb=1.22×5.5×105600=1.1×107 rad

If x is the separation of two points on the moon, that can be resolved.


Δθ=xD

1.1×107=x(3.8×1020)

x=1.1×107×3.8×1010

x=4180 cm

Hence, (A) is the correct answer.
