Calculate the solubility of the solute, if x g of solute is present in Y g of saturated solution at a given temperature .

Open in App
Solution

1. The maximum amount of a solute in grams , which can dissolve in 100 g of a solvent at a given temperature is called solubility.

2. The amount of solute dissolved in a definite quantity of a solvent depends upon the nature of the solute & nature of the solvent .

3. It is given that

mass of solute = x g

mass of the solution = y g

(y-x)gofsolventcontainsxgofsolute.Therefore100gofsolventcontains=solutesolventx100(Solubility)=xy-xx100=100xy-x

The solubility of the solute at the given temperature is 100xy-x.
