Given, increase in temperature,
Δt=5737=20 C
Coefficient of volume expansion,
γCu=3αCu=5.1×105/C
Let initial volume of the capacity be V. Also, let its volume increase by ΔV due to increase in temperature.
ΔV=γVΔt
ΔVV=γΔt
Thermal stress produced =K× Volumetric strain
=K×ΔVV=K×γΔt
=140×109×(5.1×105×20)=1.428×108 N/m2
