Question

Calculate the vapour pressure of an aqueous solution of 1.0 molal glucose solution at 100oC.

Open in App
Solution

Molality =wm×W×1000
where, w = mass of solute in grams;
W = mass of solvent in grams
1.0=wm×W×1000
or wm×W=1.01000=0.001
Applying Raoult's law for dilute solution,
P0PsP0=wm×W×M(M=18)
760Ps760=0.001×18(P0=760mmat100oC)
or Ps=760760×0.001×18
=76013.68
=746.32mm
