Question

Calculate the volume occupied by 7 g of nitrogen gas at 27C and 750 mm Hg pressure.

Open in App
Solution

Moles of Nitrogen = Weight / Molar mass
= 7 g / (28 g/mol)
= 0.25 mol

Pressure = 750 mm Hg

= (750/760) atm ………[∵ 1 atm = 760 mm Hg]

= 75/76 atm

From ideal gas equation

V=nRTP

= 0.25mol×0.0821atm.L/(molK))(75/76atm)×300K

=6.2396 liters

The volume occupied by the gas is 6.2396 litres
