Question

Calculate the wavelength and energy of radiation emitted for the electronic transition from infinite to stationary state of hydrogen atom. (Given, R=1.09678×107m1, h=6.6256×1034Js and c=2.9979×108ms1).

Solution

1λ=R[1n211n22]
n1=1 and n2=
1λ=R[1121()2]=R
or λ=1R=11.09678×107=9.11×108m
We know that,
E=hv=hcλ=6.6256×1034×2.9979×1089.11×108
=2.17×1018J.
