Question
Calculate the wavelength of H alpha in Balmer series of hydrogen atom.
Open in App
Solution
Balmer Series 1st line will be n1 = 2 and n2 = 3.
So, We shall calculate H alpha with the formula 1/lambda = R(1/n1^2 - 1/n2^2).
(let lamda be k)
1/k = R(1/4 - 1/9)
1/k = 5R/36
k = 36/5R.
