Question

Calculate the weight of CO2 which occupies a volume of 11.2 dm3 at STP.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: One mole of a gaseous substance occupies 22.4 liters at STP (22.4 dm3)

Step 2:1 L = 1 dm3

11 L = 11.2 L

Here as CO2 occupies 11.2 liters, so mole of CO2 = 22.4/11.2 = ½ mole

Step 3:Molar mass of CO2 = 12 + 16 ✕ 2 = 44 g/mol

Mass of ½ mole CO2 = 44/2 = 22 gram

Final Answer: The weight of CO2 which occupies a volume of 11.2 dm3 at STP is 22 grams.
