Open in App
Solution

2Cu+O2CuO
Given mass of CuO=159g
1mole of Cu63.5g
1mole of CuO79.5g
From the reaction
2mol of Cu reacts with 2moles of CuO
1mol of Cu79.5g
Thus 2mol of CuO159g
159g of CuO2mol of Cu
2mol of Cu2x63.5g of Cu
127g of Cu
Therefore, the mass of Cu required to produce 159g of CuO when heated in excess oxygen is 127g
