Question

Can a body have energy without having momentum ? Explain?

Open in App
Solution

A body near the earth surface have acceleration of gravity g

Hence, if (height from earth surface) h<<<Re (Radius of earth)

even in a rest state, when momentum is zero,

Body still have potential energy, U=mgh (where, m= mass of body).

Hence, it is possible to have energy without having momentum.
