Can a combination reaction be also a redox reaction?
1. Combination reaction is a chemical reaction in which two or more substances combine to form a single substance.
X + Y → XY
2. Example:
Formation of calcium oxide.
2Ca(s) + O2 (g)→ 2CaO(s)
It is also a redox reaction. Here Ca is oxidised to Ca+2 in CaO and O2 is reduced to O-2 in CaO.
3. So, we can conclude combination reaction can also be a redox reaction.
