Question

Can a plant produce oxygen during night?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
Yes, a plant can produce oxygen during the night by performing a type of photosynthetic pathway called as CAM which stands for Crassulacean Acid Metabolism. Some plants like peepal are the CAM plants which take carbon dioxide during the night and thus produce oxygen at night by performing this metabolism. But, the amount of oxygen released is very less as compared to other plants like C3 and C4 plants.
