Question

Can absolute electrode potential of an electrode is measured ?

Open in App
Solution

No, the difference in potential between two electrodes can be measured only. As the oxidation or reduction cannot occur alone. So, standard electrode is taken to measure electrode potential of any electrode.
egZn2+(aq)+2eZn(s)
H+(aq)+2eH2(g)
Standard electrode = Hydrogen electrode
EH+/H2=EH2/H+=0
