Question

Can an image be considered as matter!

Open in App
Solution

In quantum levels , images are not considered as matter.

What is image?
Image is formed when light rays from object intersect.

Light from source falls on object. Light causes electronic transitions on the object- reason for colour. The reflected and refracted light rays intersect or seem to intersect at a point, forming image.

Let us take mass balance of all activities during image formation.

We have object of particular mass , M.

When light falls, electronic transition occurs, but mass of object doesnot change.

If image had mass, m ,
Then mass before image formation = M, mass of object only.

Mass after image formation = M+m

By conservation of mass
M=M+m
Or, mass of image =m=0.
