Question

Can atom exist independently

Open in App
Solution

Atoms can not exist independently. This is because atoms accept electrons or donate electrons to form stable octet fulfilled electronic configurations and this is only possible by the formation of molecules. So atoms cannot exist along.

But only inert gases(Such as helium, neon, argon, and krypton, etc.) already have octet fulfilled configurations so they can exist as atoms.

Atoms are very small in size i.e. why it cannot be seen in naked eyes. But when atoms aggregate in large numbers to form the matter that we can see, feel or touch.
