ii.2,3- dimethyl butane be called neohexane??

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
i) The word 'iso' means branching on second carbon like a methyl on 2 nd carbon of the main chain.
3-methyl pentane cannot be called as isohexane because it has branching on carbon 3. instead 2-methyl pentane can be called as isohexane.
ii) The word neo' is used when second last carbon is trisubstituted .2,3-dimethyl butane cannot be called as neohexane. because it has substitution on 2 adjacent carbons.
instead 3,3 dimethyl butane can be called as neohexane.
Regards!
