  1. In biology, a catalyst is a substance that can be added to a biochemical reaction to speed up the reaction rate without getting consumed in the process.
  2. Catalysts are those substances that can increase or decrease a substance but themselves remain unchanged.
  3. An example of a biological catalyst is an enzyme.
  4. Catalyst participates in reaction for increasing or decreasing the rate of a reaction
  5. After a biochemical reaction catalyst returns to its original state. So, catalysts can be used over and over again.
  6. One enzyme molecule can convert about 1,000 substrate molecules into products per second.
  7. Amylase, maltase, ligase, etc are examples of enzymes as catalysts.
