Can cell division reproduce an entire organism?

Open in App
Solution

Cell division:

  1. Cell division is a process of the formation of daughter cells from parent cells.
  2. There are two types of cell division: meiosis and mitosis
  3. New body cells are made via mitotic division. They help in renewal when old cells are lost.
  4. Egg and sperm cells are created through reductional or meiotic division. These gamete cells are involved in reproduction.
  5. In unicellular organisms, simple mitotic cell division is the only way in which single-celled organisms can reproduce.
  6. In multicellular organisms, both mitosis and meiosis are involved in giving rise to an entire organism.
