Cell membrane:

  1. Cell membrane is the biological membrane present outside of the living cells.
  2. The cell membranes separate the cells from the external environment and act as a cover. They allow the cell organelles to maintain their identity and internal environment.
  3. Cell membrane possesses specific substances on its surface that function as recognition centers and points of attachment.

Cells survival without a membrane:

  1. A living cell cannot survive without a membrane. Apart from acting as a barrier and attachment site, cell membranes play important roles in living cells.
  2. Membranes have carrier proteins for transport, cell membranes also contain enzymes for a certain reactions.
  3. A cell membrane provides sheath for cilia and flagella and also takes part in the transmission of impulses in nerve cells.
  4. Thus, it can be concluded that cells cannot survive without a membrane.
