Cyanobacteria:

  1. Cyanobacteria or blue-green algae are aquatic and photosynthetic.
  2. They are unicellular and very small-sized bacteria and can grow in colonies.
  3. Cyanobacteria produce cyanotoxins, these toxins can be dangerous to human health. They target the neurological system, liver, skin, etc.
  4. Cyanobacteria can colonize and produce algal blooms which kill fishes and other aquatic animals.
  5. Examples of toxic cyanobacteria are Microcystis, Planktothrix, and Dolichospermum (Anabaena).
