Dear Student, Galvanization is the process of coating iron articles with a thin layer of another metal. Usually, zinc metal is used in the process of galvanization. Zinc metal forms a physical barrier between iron article and the moisture present in the atmosphere. The metallic zinc undergoes oxidation reaction to form zinc oxide which further undergoes hydrolysis to form zinc hydroxide. Zinc hydroxide further reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide to form an impermeable dull-grey layer of zinc carbonate. In this way, the underlying iron metal is protected from getting rusted. Regards
