Open in App
Solution

Bacteria:

  1. Unicellular, prokaryotic organisms without organelles and a true nucleus.
  2. Example- Salmonella, Lactobacillus, etc.
  3. They can be both beneficial and harmful to humans.

Advantages

  1. Bacteria is pivotal in maintaining our gut health (probiotics).
  2. Probiotics are good bacteria that live in the human intestine.
  3. They keep our digestive system healthy and help improve the immune system. Example- Lactobacilli spp.
  4. Bacteria play an irreplaceable role in agriculture.
  5. For example, they help in nitrogen fixation, e.g., Rhizobium, Azotobacter, etc.
  6. Bacteria are decomposers that play an essential role in the food chain.
  7. It would be challenging to regulate dead and decaying material without bacteria. Example of decomposers- Bacillus subtilis.
  8. However, there are plenty of pathogenic bacteria that cause diseases.
  9. Example- Salmonella typhi, E.coli, etc.
  10. Therefore, it can be said that humans can live without bacteria, but the quality of life will be impacted drastically.
