Can ice be converted into the water? If yes, suggest the name of the process.

  • Yes, ice can be converted into water by the process called melting.
  • In the case of melting either by increasing the temperature or by decreasing the pressure, the ice gets converted into the liquid phase.
  • When we increase the temperature or decrease the pressure the gaseous molecules get more kinetic energy and hence the bond between them get loosens up and they are converted to the liquid phase.
  • Reversible process: The process which can be reverted to its initial position after becoming a product is called the reversible process. Mainly physical processes are reversible processes. This process is also called a temporary change.
  • For example, Melting, boiling
  • Irreversible process: The processes that can not be reverted to their original form once become a product are called irreversible processes. This process is called permanent change.
  • For example, Burning paper and cutting trees.
