Reproduction:
- It is a process of producing offspring.
- It is of two types- sexual and asexual.
- In asexual reproduction, only a single organism/parent gives rise to offspring.
- Example- binary fission in amoeba, budding in hydra, etc.
- In sexual reproduction, the fusion of male and female gametes gives rise to offspring.
- Example- humans and other multicellular organisms.
Asexual reproduction in plants:
- When vegetative parts of a plant are used as a mode of reproduction, it is known as vegetative propagation.
- In reproducing by using leaves, a leaf from a parent plant is propagated, and a new plantlet is produced on the parent plant.
- Example- leaves of Bryophyllum, peperomia, etc.
