can one take one's favourite cold drink through a straw if there were a hole in the straw?

When there is a hole in the straw, no one suck the drink because of atmospheric pressure.
When we suck, we try to reduce the pressure inside the straw and to balance the pressure , liquid rises in the straw.
But when there is an hole in the straw, pressure remains balanced and liquid do not rise in the straw.
