Question

Can plants perform photosynthesis in any light other than sunlight?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis refers to the process of converting carbon dioxide, light and water into carbohydrates which are further broken down into various compounds which are required for the growth and living of the plant. Although sunlight is the essential condition for the photosynthesis to happen, yet artificial light can also serve the purpose. Artificial light having the frequency, same as that of the sunlight can help the plant to carry on with photosynthesis.

Also the distance of the plant from the source of light decides the amount of light received by the plant i.e. the right amount of artificial light provided to the plant can help the plant to continue with this process.
