Question

Can the 2 objects colliding have different mass in conservation of momentum?

Open in App
Solution

Yes mass can be different.
B y space c o n s e r v a t i o n space o f space m o m e n t u m comma space m subscript 1 v subscript 1 equals m subscript 2 v subscript 2

Here, m is mass and v is velocity of bodies 1 and 2.

If mass is different, velocity will change. But always the product of mass and velocity (momentum) will be constant.

So, yes, bodies can have different masses.
