Question

Can the average speed of a moving body be zero? Give reason.

Open in App
Solution

Average speed =

Total distance travelled / Time taken

As you can see the average speed is zero only if the distance travelled is zero.

However the average velocity can be zero even if the distance travelled is non-zero.

This happens when a body makes a complete revolution around a circlular path and returns to the starting point.
