Question

Can the cutting of wood be represented as physical change and burning of wood as chemical change?

Open in App
Solution

Cutting of wood is considered as physical change due to the reason that no new substances hasbeen formed while cutting. The cutting piece has same properties as wood before cutting.
Burning of wood is a chemical changeas new substances which cannot be changed back (e.g. carbon dioxide) are formed. For example, if wood isburned in a fireplace, there is not wood anymore but ash. ..
