Question

Can the molecules of water be seen through a microscope?

Open in App
Solution

Not with a traditional light microscope,

Because the atoms are smaller than the smallest wavelength of visible light at 400 nano meters, compared to water's size of 2.75 angstroms,
one could potential use an electron microscope to do so, using beams of electrons which have a smaller wavelength than visible light, but it is very unpractical.
