Question

Can the process of melting of ice-cream be considered as physical change?

Open in App
Solution

Yes, the melting of ice cream is a physical change because here only change in physical state is taking place that is from solid to liquid and if we want again a solid ice cream we can freeze it.

Changes mainly have two different criteria which are as follows:

(a) Physical change:

  • The change in which no new substances are formed are called physical changes.
  • Only physical state changes in physical changes and the most of the time physical changes are reversible( that can be reverted back to their original position) in nature.

(b) Chemical change:

  • The changes in which new substances(products) are formed and most of the time chemical reactions are irreversible( the reaction that cant become in its initial state once become a product).
