Question

Can there be a time-temperature graph as follows ?Justify your answer.

Solution

Checking the validity of the graph:

Graphs are visual representations of data collected. In most cases, the data exists in the form of a table. In many cases, the table itself is displayed.

i) This can be a time-temperature graph as a temperature can increase with the increase in time.

ii)This can be a time-temperature graph as a temperature can decrease with the decrease in time.

iii)This cannot be a time-temperature graph since the different temperature at the same time is not possible.

Iv) This can be a time-temperature graph as the same temperature at different times is possible.

i)Here, the temperature is increasing as time increases. It is a valid case.
ii) Here, the temperature is decreasing as time increases, which is also a valid case.
iii) In this case, the temperature is increasing in constant time. This case is invalid since the different temperature is not possible at a time.
iv) In this case, the temperature remains constant as time increases, which is also possible.

Hence, only (iii) graph case is invalid.
