Question

Can we find acceleration of the rocket between 6s and 10s from this data in the graph?

Open in App
Solution

  • The slope of a velocity graph represents the acceleration of the object. I.e.,

  • Slope = change in velocity / time taken

= acceleration

Slope = Δv/Δt = a

  • In this case, slope = Δv/Δt = 100/4 =25 ms-2

  • Positive slope indicates positive acceleration and vice-versa.

  • A straight line curve on the velocity time graph indicates a constant acceleration.

  • Other than the straight line, all other curves indicate non-uniform acceleration.
