Question

Can we generate PWM from PPM?

Open in App
Solution

P.W.M is the Pulse width modulation that generates pulses of varying widths.

On the contrary, PPM is known as the pulse position modulation which generates a pulse of fixed amplitude with respect to specific time intervals.

It is possible to generate a PPM signal by P.W.M through the following steps:

  1. The output P.W.M signal from a comparator is fed to a monostable multivibrator.
  2. The monostable produces high output for each trailing edge of the P.W.M signal.
  3. Trailing signals of the P.W.M are proportioned to the modulating signal.
  4. Finally, all the generated PPM pulses will have similar widths and amplitude.
