Question

Can we get an inverted image of an object if we use a convex mirror?

Open in App
Solution

  • A real image is always inverted with respect to the object.
  • To form a real image, lights from the object must meet at a point after getting reflected.
  • However, in the case of a convex mirror, lights from the object always get diverged after reflection. When these reflected light rays are traced back they appear to meet a point behind the mirror. Hence, a convex mirror always forms a virtual image.
  • A virtual image is always erect with respect to the object.

Final answer - Hence, we can not get an inverted image of an object if we use a convex mirror.
