A genetic disorder is a disorder or disease caused by any change in a gene or organism.
This disorder can be caused by a whole-genome sequence change or a part of a DNA change like a change in any gene.
A genetic disorder can be caused by a mutation in one or multiple genes or chromosomal abnormalities.
Examples are Down syndrome, sickle cell anaemia, and cystic fibrosis.
A genetic disorder is classified as an acquired or inherited disorder.
Inherited Disorder: this disorder is present by birth or passed from one generation to another generation.
Acquired Disorder: this disorder is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs during the egg, sperm, or embryo growth.
Testing or genetic counselling can help in preventing or managing the condition as the change in the genetic material is usually permanent. It can not be cured.
