Can we treat alkyl as a functional group when no other functional group is there in the compound .

Dear student, Generally we select a longest carbon chain while naming a compound. So if the alkyl group is present after the first carbon atom of a chain then we can treat it like a functional group by selecting the longest possible chain. Regards
