Question

Can we use a solenoid instead of an armature in any of the generators?

Solution

Armature is the rotating part of a motor or a generator. In a motor the armature rotates when electricity is provided thus it converts electrical and magnetic energy into mechanical energy. In a generator the armature rotates to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy in the presence of a magnetic field.

A solenoid is a coil wound in the shape of a helix. That is, like a helical spring. The wire used for making solenoid will be insulated wire.

A solenoid is a coiled length of metal wire. In most applications, the metal wire is looped around a metallic core, called an armature.
