  • Animals which are active during night and sleep during the day are called nocturnal animals.
  • These creatures generally have highly developed senses of hearing and smell.
  • They have specially adopted eye sight to see well in dark. Their eyes get bigger and the pupils widen.
  • They mostly communicate by sound, like bats, they emit a high pitched sound which bounces off objects to find prey or protect from predators and help in sending signals to others.
  • Some desert animals become nocturnal in order to escape extreme day time heat. Some examples of nocturnal animals are, bats, owls, rats, etc.
